The origins of both CFS and Realta are rooted in magnet advancements. CFS was established in 2018 following MIT researchers' discovery that newly available high-temperature superconductors could support a practical tokamak configuration. Realta emerged a few years later when University of Wisconsin physicists identified a breakthrough technology that would allow them to revisit the magnetic mirror concept and leverage its engineering benefits, according to co-founder and CEO Kieran Furlong.
